Orchard School Sport and Physical Education

We are delighted to announce that we, The Orchard School have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2017/18 academic year.


The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in  2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognized for our success. 


Our sporting achievements this year include:

  • Kent School Games :- Cycling we won the Team Time Trial and Skills Challenge and Franky Kelsey Neil was joint 1st in the time trial. 
  • Rowing 2nd in the heats with Franky winning the Individual row.( Sadly we were unable to attend the final)
  • Boccia U19 Team CCr won the Kent School Games, then represented Kent in the Regional Championships at Gulidford which they won. This meant they represented the S.E at the National Finals at Hatfield. The Team of Franky,Stephen,Shawn and Tommy won all their games to get in the final. They were just beaten in the final end by Richmond so 2nd in the National Championships. Fantastic achievement boys.
  • Cross Country 5 boys placed in the top ten individual places.
  • Cricket Primary and Secondary 1st
  • Tag Rugby 1st
  • Football 3rd.
  • The pupils have also played against other schools in various sports.
  • Within school the pupils have had an opportunity to take part in a wide variety of sports including Gliding,Boxing, Sailing and Golf as well as the usual range of sports.
  • With a total of young people competing in local inter-school
  • competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.


As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
