Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) at The Orchard School

“Every young person needs high-quality career guidance to make informed decisions about their future.” (Good Career Guidance, Gatsby)

At The Orchard School we “encourage and support every student to succeed and become responsible citizens” and good careers education, information, advice and guidance is a key part of this. Careers education will help students to not only understand what skills and qualifications are needed for different careers but also help guide them on their transition through school and into the wider world.

Throughout their time at The Orchard we will develop key employability skills, support inclusion, challenge stereotyping and promote equality of opportunity. We will make students aware of the full academic and technical routes available and help the students to understand their skills and qualities so that students have the necessary knowledge to make successful transitions post 16.

The Orchard School will deliver on “Careers guidance and access for education and training providers” (September 2022) by:

• Ensuring students understand the full range of opportunities open to them

• Ensuring students learn the skills valued in the workplace and gain first-hand experiences of the workplace

• Ensuring students have access to advice and guidance from individuals with the skills and guidance including independent careers advice tailored to their circumstances and needs.

The Orchard School Careers programme adheres to the government’s recommendation of what constitutes good career guidance by following the Gatsby Benchmarks:
