KS4 D&T Curriculum

Design and Technology in KS4 is an option subject. Should a pupil decide that they wish to take Design and Technology as an option subject, they will head onto a pathway that can culminate in a GCSE Design and Technology qualification.

Pupils will initially build on the skills that they will have learned, in KS3. At the start of Year 10, pupils that have chosen Design and Technology will initially work towards the AQA Unit Award Scheme ‘Level One’ Basic Wood Working Skills.’ This will allow pupils to firm up their existing skills and a develop new one in preparation for their GCSE in Year 11.

Throughout Year 10, pupils will work on smaller, focused projects, both practical and theory based to develop a skill set that will give them the confidence to tackle the GCSE. Some of these skills will be awarded through the AQA Unit Award Scheme.

Towards the end of Year 10, pupils will begin to explore the key aspects of the GCSE Design and Technology syllabus. This is to prepare them for the work they need to do in Year 11.

In Year11 the classroom based work is focused solely on gaining a good outcome in GCSE Design and Technology. Pupils will study the syllabus offered by AQA GCSE Design and Technology.
