Enrichment
Enrichment Curriculum
We want every student at The Orchard School to participate in the Enrichment programme as we have seen that students who take an active role in the enrichment activities display higher levels of self-esteem, a heightened sense of belonging, increased attendance and develop their social, emotional and mental health skills. This can help improve the students’ moral and social development, health and wellbeing and academic performance.
Curriculum Enrichment is an embedded practice within The Orchard School curriculum. We strive to enrich our student’s education by drawing upon the combination of talents and interests of staff within our school and using the talents and experiences of others from outside of the school. We provide students with enrichment opportunities that provide students with a range of high-quality activities that enable them to learn about curricular and non-curricular ideas and concepts. Our intent is to provide students with structured experiences to develop physical, mental, spiritual, cultural and intellectual health of each child that is part of The Orchard School community. All students should learn to question and be encouraged to make a meaningful contribution throughout their lives for the good of us all. Curriculum enrichment complements our holistic curriculum in offering students to practice and develop their skills in an informal learning environment which provides a ‘body of knowledge’ for each student and no academic pressure or judgements of performance. Students are encouraged and supported by trusted staff, through our enrichment programme to develop life skills which build character, which benefits well beyond the classroom. At The Orchard School, our aim is to develop a thriving enrichment programme which promotes employability, academic attainment and teaching young people the skills they need to make good choices. Students are given this opportunity on a Friday from 11:10 am till the end of the day. Students experience an ever-changing choice of activities and special interests are taken into account in order to stretch and challenge each pupil.
